Crowns and Bridges

Crowns and Bridges

When a tooth has too much decay to be filled or needs a root canal it will then be necessary to have a crown placed over the tooth. When there is not enough tooth structure left, it may be necessary to place a post inside the crown to gain retention.

A crown is custom-made to look like the rest of a patient’s teeth. Crowns are usually made of porcelain or sometimes gold depending on the location of the crown and the patient’s bite. It is cemented over the prep work the dentist performs at an earlier appointment.

A bridge is used where a tooth/teeth are missing and is custom-made to look like the other teeth in the patient’s mouth. Similar to a crown, the adjacent teeth are first prepped and then followed by a false tooth being attached.  Finally, at a later date, the bridge is seated with cement, aiding in chewing and appearance.

Just like caring for natural teeth, crowns and bridgework need routine cleanings. Waterpiks are recommended for optimal home care. Special brushes are used to clean under the false tooth on a bridge. We warranty our crowns for three years.

Same Day Crowns

New Life Dental Center now offers the convenience of same-day crowns! Traditionally, a temporary crown is put in at the initial appointment, and the permanent crown comes in up to two weeks later. Unfortunately, these temporary crowns live up to their name, often falling out or cracking before the permanent crown arrives. With our new, onsite equipment this inconvenience is a thing of the past. Come see us in the morning and have your new permanent crown that afternoon!
